Stephen J. Coukos

Steve represents both public and private companies in a variety of industries.  He has extensive experience representing clients in both a general counsel capacity and as special counsel for strategic transactions and other projects requiring enhanced expertise.

Steve represented the region’s largest bank holding company in connection with numerous acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and other strategic transactions, including purchases and sales of mortgage, finance, trust, securities, retirement services and other financial services companies and lines of business.

Throughout his career, Steve has worked closely with corporate clients providing advice on regulatory and compliance matters (including Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and SEC registration and reporting requirements), mergers and acquisitions, capital raising transactions, and corporate governance.

Steve has been repeatedly recognized by his peers by inclusion in numerous editions of Woodward & White’s The Best Lawyers in America and Chambers and Partners’ America’s Leading Business Lawyers.

Steve is a past Co-Chair of the Banking and Financial Services Committee of the Business Law Section of the Boston Bar Association.  He writes and speaks regularly on corporate and business topics of interest.  His commentary has been sought as an authority on topics such as mergers and acquisitions, securities and insurance sales and regulatory compliance by various national and regional publications, such as American Banker, The Boston Globe and Boston Business Journal.

Steve graduated from Trinity College (Connecticut), Phi Beta Kappa, with a major in history, and is a graduate of Stanford Law School.
