William A. Hazel

Will Hazel is a tax attorney and a partner of Chu, Ring & Hazel LLP, having joined the firm in January of 1997. Will provides tax planning and transactional analysis in support of the firm's clients in areas ranging from employee and executive compensation to business acquisition and divestiture. Will also represents clients in tax controversies against the Internal Revenue Service and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. Recent matters involving these agencies have ranged from multi-million dollar claims for tax credits and local property tax exemptions on behalf of multi-state corporations to joint proceedings on behalf of individual taxpayers seeking relief on a yearly basis. These matters are heard and argued before the Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board, the United States Tax Court and the Federal and Massachusetts appellate courts.

Will graduated from Bridgewater State College in 1980 with a B.A. in Political Science and History and he earned his J.D. at the Boston College Law School (magna cum laude). Will began his legal career as an associate at Bingham McCutchen LLP, where he became a partner in the Tax Department. Beginning in 1995, Will was an attorney at the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, and was appointed and served as the Department's Acting General Counsel and First Deputy Commissioner during 1996.

Will also is a co-founder and Managing Director of Beacon Exchange Company, LLC, a Boston based financial intermediary company that facilitates tax free exchanges under Section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code. Please see www.beacon1031.com.
